Limited Or No Connectivity

I just hooked into a new network, when I plug in direct to the modem I can get on line no problem, when I try to go wireless it gives me limited or no connectivity with an excellent signal strenght. I am Using a Inspiron 1150 laptop with an Apple Airport base station. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. Chris

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

It's a Cable Modem, I'v Tryed turning my computer off, reseting the modem then turning my computer back on. It still gives me the Limited or No Connectivity. Im not really switching back and forth between a hard line and wireless, Im just trying to get my computer online wireless.

Is this a cable or dsl modem?  Are you switching between having the computer pluged into the modem and having the base station plugged in to the modem? If so, are you resetting the network everytime you change the device plugged into the modem?

Please answer the question that esquire asked.  You are not getting a valid IP address from the base station.  If WEP encryption of MAC address filtering is enabled on the base station, then this would explain why you aren't getting an IP address.

Is the AirPort Base Station using any encryption to secure the wireless network?  Try re-enter the Network Key on your 1150.

The keyword here is "it seems to have a connection".  Windows often thinks there is a "connection" even when the key (aka "password") is out by one character.

From your description, it sounds like it is secured by encryption.  Do you know what kind of encryption it is using?  In general, there are 2: WEP and WPA (or the newer WPA2).  You may need to know which one.

I'm not familiar with Dell wireless adapters, but does anyone know if the 1350 WLAN card driver support ASCII WEP network keys?  From other discussions elsewhere I think Apple favours ASCII keys over HEX keys to deploy WEP.  The difference between an ASCII key and a HEX key is in the number of characters can be used and the length of the character string.  A HEX key is longer and is fixed at 26 characters in length for 128bit WEP encryption.

You will never be able to connect until you can enter the encryption key on your computer.  If you don't know the key, you will have to find access to the router in order to obtain the key.

Steve, do you know if the Dell 1350 WLAN card supports ASCII WEP key?

An enrcryption key is kind of like a password.  If it works then you are set.

Where did you see this message?  Looks like you are not using the correct key to access the network.

When I click on the wireless network, a box comes up saying the network requires a network password. The password Snow works for the apple computers in the house. My computer wont accept the password.
