Limited or No connectivity

I have had a limited or no connectivity problem since i have been using my ethernet port to access my broadband service. I was previously using my usb port because i didnt have the ethernet controller driver. How can i fix this problem? I tried repair but it couldnt renew ip address and i dont have the ip address for the diagnostic test

If you are conecting to a cable modem, you need to do a complete reset of the system every time you change the connection between the USB port and the ethernet port.  This is because the cable modem remembers the last device connected to it and will only communicate with that device.   So, you need to shut everything down.  Wait 5 minutes, then turn on the modem and wait another few minutes.  If you are connecting by USB, make sure that the ethernet cable is not connecting the modem and the computer, then turn on the computer.  If you now connecting with ethernet, makes sure the USB cable is not connecting the modem and the computer and then turn the computer on.  You must perform this rest operation every time you change the connection.

It is the modem that needs to be turned off.  Read the instructions again.

I have this same problem.  Just recently had a new hard drive installed and then this "limited connectivity" comes up.  Recently started having problems with the internet and word going into, only what I can described as "hypernating mode" every couple of minutes.  Could this be the problem?  I'm on DSL.

not very computer literate, but learning fast :smileysad:

thanks!!

I tried turning off the comp and unplugging the modem but i still recieve the limited or no connectivity message. I try to repair it but i cannot renew the ip address. Can i do anything to help that situation? Or maybe i should call my isp because they should be the one in charge of the ip address rite?
