What operating system are you running? XP or Vista? Or other?

1) If you live in an apartment complex or housing community and have not changed the SSID on the router/access point make sure you are connecting to the correct Linksys connection (as linksys is the default name of the network and may be more than one linksys network)

2) Try and Renew the ip address. If it is windows you can click on your wireless card and click repair and this will renew the ipaddress. Or you can do it the manual way. Load of the Command prompt

click start -> Run
type CMD (hit enter or Ok)
brings up black box.
type
ipconfig /release (enter)
ipconfig /renew (enter)

if you have an ipaddress of 192.168.1.something (linksys default)

You should be able to connect.

if not you prob have a firewall issue that is preventing you from connecting

turn off your firewall temporarily and see if that resolves the issue.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply OritionX. I am running XP. I did create a new SSID and connecting to it with great signal. I have tried renewing the IP, I have disabled the Windows Firewall and still no access to the internet.  I am gettng a valid IP of 192.168.1.xxx. I am not sure what to do next. I could call the Geek Squad, but that's $100 for them to remote in and try to fix it with no guarantee that they will get it working.

Thanks for the help...

if you have a valid ip address like that I would try to see if you can ping anything.

goto the command prompt as before and try pinging www.microsoft.com

ping www.microsoft.com (if you didnt know how to do that)

if you get no responses try pinging one of your other computers.

ping 192.168.1.XX (where XX is the number of the address on the other computer)

if that does not work turn off all firewalls.

Windows, Mcafee, Trend micros pc-cillin, Norton, Live one care or what ever else you are using and see  if you can connect. Also try pinging everything over again.

If that does not work let me know.

I have seen that problem a lot with my customers. Usually it is a reboot of the broadband connection and then the router (in that order) that fixes it. Rarely is it the computer itself needing to be rebooted.
