Limited range on wireless AND 576 error during driver update

My Inspiron 8600 using an internal Dell 1450 dual band wireless card.

1. I have limited range. I can wireless connect when close to my wireless router, BUT at a distance of 20-30 feet, it disconnects.

2. After an hour on the phone with Dell (and my 3-year extended service agreement), the rep asked me to download and install the latest 1450 driver from the Dell support site.

3. I downloaded the 48 meg driver (!) to my desktop as instructed. Initiating the install does those things you expect, but, during the setup phase of the upgrade, the incremental graph gets to 56% completed when an error message pops up

4. Error "update 576" has ocurred and setup cannot complete. The quotation marks are not mine. They are part of the error message.

5. Just for grins and giggles, I deleted the driver and downloaded it again. Same result.

6. Shall I call Dell and talk again for an hour?

Words of wisdom appreciated.

Regards, Rich

I am having the same problem!

I tried to install a Dell Wireless 1390 Dual Band WLAN (802.11a/b,54Mbps) Mini Card in my Dell Precisoin M90 laptop.
I installed the card according to the directions.  I turned on my computer and it recognized the card.
I was prompted to insert the CD, which I did.
At 56% completed the installation failed.  The error screens are attached.
I re-started my computer.
I tried to re-install the software five times.

I need a valid driver for this card.

I've been working with a Dell technician/support person at their help desk in Upper Slobobia who uses heavily accented English and doesn't full comprehend the nuances of the English language. On top of that, I am pretty sure that he is on a VOIP connnection, complete with system lags and drops. Really lots of fun.

During my research via the Dell forum, I searched for 576 and found an entry that suggested the only cure was to replace the card. I relayed that info to my support person.

After trying another few "things" on my computer, he FINALLY agreed that I needed a new 1450 dual band wireless card. The card is supposed to arrive on Monday.
