Link connection very slow at start up

:( I have a new wireless 5100. The card is a True Mobile 1400. My router is a D-Link DI 524 G. IP is SBC DSL.

My desktop is a Dell 4100 with upgrades. When I boot up my desktop I get on-line like now and all links open very quickly.

When I boot up my laptop [which is about 30' and one wall away from my desktop] my icons show that I am on-line with a very good connection. However, when I open the IE [or any other any other program such as OE] the hour glass works and works. After opening and closing IE for maybe 15 minutes I will finally get my home page or mail box.

What could be the reason for this stubborn delay and how can I correct this problem??

Latest driver for the 1400, latest firmware for the D-Link, and lastly, if needed, replace the 1400.

Why in the world would I want to replace my 1400? It came with my laptop which is only 3 weeks old. Also wouldn't the 1400 have the latest driver? Likewise my router was also just purchased. The D-Link tech never suggested up dating it's driver. Still confused in YL. :(
