You need to have an ethernet card in each computer and then connect them with a special network cable, called a cross-over cable.  For help getting the network set up, see:

You can use a USB ethernet adapter, but they are usually less reliable and more expensive than a PCI card.

In my previous repy I said : "You need to have an ethernet card in each computer and then connect them with a special network cable, called a cross-over cable".  A regular network cable will not work you need a cross-over cable.

ok, i got an ethernet card, put it in my computer, and it installed fine.

the chord is plugged into both computers, but i still get the icon on my taskbar that says a network cable is unplugged!

I'm thinking that maybe i have the wrong kind of cable, i have a

Belkin "fastCAT5e Networking Cable"

"Ethernet Cable RJ45 male/male"

so does anyone know whats wrong??
