Linking machines

I have been trying to get two Latitude X300 machines to talk using the centrino stuff.

I have set up the wireless network connection on one of them and can see it is available and connected. I also can pick up the network from the other one and it also says it is connected. However, I can neither ping or join workgroups from either machine. I have set up workgroup with same name on both machines but I think the problem lies "below" this due to the ping not working.

When I've done this I want to get them to talk to my broadband connection through a belkin wireless card on my desktop so I suppose I'll be back for more advice on that too!

Please somebody tell me what else I need to do or where I should go to read thanks.
