Local Access Only & Wireless

Can anyone help me on this please? I just purcahsed a Inspirion laptop and I am actually ready to return it! The PC sees my wireless network, but I am only getting "local access only" and no Internet access. After reading other forums this is a common problem with Vista, of course!

Has anyone with a Dell had this problem and if so how did you fix it?

Thanks Much :)

Which model computer?  Which wireless network adapter?  Is Windows managing your wireless connections or is the utility specific to your netwok adapter managing?  Do you have any security features enabled on the router (MAC address filtering/WEP/WPA encryption)?  If so, which ones?  Are other computers able to connect to your wireless network without problems?  Can you connect to other wireless networks?  We need information that will help us eliminate possible sources of the problem.

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

OK so I'm having the same problem and I just got a Inspiron 1525 laptop last week.  I only get the 'local access only' connection when I'm running the laptop on the battery.  If I plug it into the charger quick it connects to the internet just fine and then I can unplug it and stay connected.  I do get a message that the wireless LAN card isn't working properly when it won't connect...I'm baffled...our Gateway laptop connects just fine...

If anyone does know of a fix...I need help too!

Thanks!

After 2 nights of research and talking to numerous IT folks I actually decided to return the laptop. THe headaches of Vista are not worth it to me. Hate to say it, but I am going to a MAC versus a PC, so much easier!

Good luck though :)
