Local Area Conection doesn't work...Says "Bluetooth Personal Area Network"

Brand new laptop out of the box (Latitude D430).  Plugin the LAN ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the back of the laptop and get no lights.  When I look at the Network Connections, my Local Area Connection says "Bluetooth Personal Area Network".....Never seen this before.  Does this mean that I can not use an ethernet connection to establish a connection to my business network as usual????  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

For every network adapter you have on the computer, a seperate icon would come under Network Connections. Bluetooth and Ethernet Controllers would show up as Local Area Connection and Wireless would show up as Wireless Network Connection.

If the card drivers for the Ethernet card isnt installed, you will not find an icon specific to it. Go into device manager and check if the Ethernet Card shows up under Network Adapters.

Yeah, I know that, but see where, on your screenshot, it says "Local Area Connection"?  Well, on mine, it *usually* says something like yours, such as "Intel....." or "Broadcom....", but instead, mine says "Bluetooth Personal Area Network".  That's what is driving me nuts.  Almost like I didn't even get a normal ethernet connection with the laptop..?!?!?

Excellent suggestion Bill B.  I pluged in the power cord and the ethernet connection appeared in the Network Connections and the network adapter appeared in the Device Manager.

Thanks!

Jeff
