Local Area Connection problem after format, Dell Dimension 2400

Question

I did a complete format on my computer, a Dell dimension 2400. I reinstalled Windows XP everything else is working fine, except the internet connection. Im using a Cable Modem & Cox Cable (The modem is in excellent condition & I am using it on this old pc so I know it works) and cant get the my IP address for the LAN. I installed these drivers in this order: (Per Dell instructions) Chip Set Video Audio LAN Under Network adapters it has: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. There are no yellow ? or !. I did try a TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. It did not work. This problem happened to me the last time I did a reformat months ago. Sadly, I do not remember how it was fixed. (as it took me FOREVER ) DHCP is enabled but will not start. I get an error 1068. (note the DHCP Lease Expires 12/31/1969 , see below) When I check dependencies afd is listed, although I do not have this listed as a service at all. (It is in my system32 folder) After encountering this problem I did another complete format & it did not help either. I installed all drivers in the order specified by Dell. (again) This is all what is wrong in my services file. In services, this is what it says: 1. In Application management, when I try to start it says: cannot be found. 2. Computer Browser, clicked start but stopped right away. 3. DHCP Client error 1068 4. Human Access Interface device: Error 1068 5. Net Logon, clicked start but stopped right away 6. Perm. logs, clicked start but stopped 7. TCP/IP Net BIOS, error 1068 8. I helped hipmama with this. I downloaded the Intel drivers from Dell, along with any & ALL updates on another disk. (for the Dell Dimension 2400) The third reformat did the trick.(even though she had installed everything correctly the first two times) One of the updates helped somehow. The internet did NOT work automatically. She called her ISP who then refreshed the modem, & then did ipconfig /all.She was then finally able to get a connection. Once it finally worked, we then set a System Restore point 'just in case'.   Next, we tried updating Windows. Everything went fine until Net Framework 2. That removed the internet once again, disabled her firewall, autostarted Windows Firewall and altered her services. We then did a System Restore. FINALLY, the internet is again up & running.   I noticed many Dell users are having these weird internet problems. I hope this post can help others fix their computers. She experienced the Local Area Connection (LAC) unplugged, as well as the obtaining Ip address in her LAC icon. There must be something incompatible with Windows Xp Net Framework & her Dell Drivers.
