Lock Up When Clicking on Site
I have new XPS400 and just lately (like in the last couple of days). When I click on something in my e-mail to take me to that site, it locks up for a few seconds and still doesn't take me to the site. For example when registering to post on this site, they send you an email and you are suppose to click on it to VERIFY. It kept getting stuck and finally I did it. This morning when I click on something to do in a web site the same thing.
Any help? Does this make sense?
Thank you!

This is a consequence of a recent Windows update and there is a fix. I suspect if you read all the posts up and down this current page there is a link in one of them to it. It involves making an edit to the registry (adding a key and its value of 1). The other symptom of the same consequence is being unable to use Save As (in Word) and put a document somewhere. The process in each case winds up 'not responding'
On the campus I support I have applied the fix to two computers so far.

The following is the resolution from that article.
RESOLUTION
• Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software. The MS06-015 (908531) (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx) security update includes a "white list"; VERCLSID.EXE will not scan any extension that appears on this list. Adding the HP shell extension corrects the problem. Manually edit the registry: 1. Log on to the computer with an account with administrator privileges.
2. Click the Start button and then click Run.
3. Type Regedit and then click OK.
4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached
5. Right-click "Cached", point to New, click "DWORD Value", and then enter:
{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401
6. Set the Data of this value to 1
7. Close the Registry Editor.
8. Use Task Manager to end the Verclsid.exe process or restart the computer.
Note: If other third-party COM controls or shell extensions are determined to cause this issue, the same method must be used to add the appropriate shell extension.
• VERCLSID.EXE process flagged by Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. Kerio Personal Firewall Users can configure Kerio to allow VERCLSID.EXE to execute without prompting.
