Loosing internet connection

I've recently deleted some programs that I'm not using anymore (mostly games).  Now if my computer sits for a while, when I come back to it I've lost my internet connection (cable modem).  If I open Outlook Express, it tells me it can't find my host server.  If I open Explorer it tells me the page can't be displayed.  The only thing I can do is re-boot and everything works fine, until I walk away from it for an extended period again.

Is your computer set to go into Standby or Hibernate?  If so, disable these modes (they don't work very well on desktop computers anyway) and see if that solves the problem.  You can also try going into Device Manager, expanding the list for Network Adapters, double cliking your ethernet network adapter, then click on the Power Management tab and make sure it is set to never turn off to save power.

Whoops, not so fast.

The problem is still there.  Any suggestions?
