Losing Internet Connection!

WE hae a dimension 4700 with XP. After about 5 minutes online, we will lose our internet connection. We can send and receive "pings" so it is not our ISP provider. We can hook our laptop up to our high speed internet box and it works fine. Seems to be a setting inside this computer that is not right. It worked before so I don't get it. If we shut the computer off and start it again, it works. Then disconnects again! Can anyone help???

Has this been happening since you bought the PC or recently? You may want to try a system restore and also check for any spyware. Also try to check/repair the Winsock.

This has been happening for about two months. A new caompany took over our ISP and I thought it was related. They say not. How do I do a system restore or check/restore Winsock? My system seems to be clean from Spyware. I have talked to the guys from my virus protection service about it. Thank you for posting!

To restore the winsock you try this...

Start -> Run -> (type) netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt -> Click OK

System restore should be in ...

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore
