Lost Internet connection
I have a Dimension 8400 XPSP2 Media Center PC. I am connected to a cable modem and I am using a D-Link DI624 Wireless Router. My PC is physically connected to the router and my Inspiron 5160 laptop connects wirelessly.
Here is the problem. I recently replaced a failed HDD and reinstalled XP. Since then I will lose my Internet connection whenever my computer is idle for a few hours, overnight for example. The only way I've found to get it back is to reboot. I will also get an intermittent message telling me that the network cable is unplugged when it clearly is not.
I have had no problems connecting with my laptop, even when it has been idle for long periods. I have also been able to connect to the Internet on the laptop while the connection is not working on my PC - so the problem obviously lies there. When I run ipconfig /all from the command line either while connected or not, I get the same information with nothing out of the ordinary. Also, while connected to the internet or not, I can connect to my D-Link router from my PC and view or edit any settings I wish.
I have swapped cables, reinstalled NIC drivers, powered off the cable modem, all to no avail. I have released and renewed my IP. I have turned off the power management settings for the NIC, also with no effect. I have scoured the Internet looking for solutions, but have found none that were exactly the same, and certainly none that worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried cloning your computer's MAC address to the router ? I use a Belkin router myself but I believe your D-Link has the same feature. The following is from the help files in my router.
