Does your network adapter show up in Device Manager? Does it show up in Network Connections? Is this an ethernet connection or a USB connection? We need a lot more information in order to help you.
when I click on the internet icon from the start menu ..the internet property box comes up..SBC had me delete all devices, so now there is nothing, I tried to re-install the sbc dsl cd, but can not even download that .. I call only go as far as to Yes I have a sbcglobal.net email, and then it keeps comming back to that screen. Dell is no help..sbc is no help they both blame the other guy. I am not computer savy by any means either. Everything was working fine until I tried to install the parental control, sbc had me un-install that and also un-install the Mcafee program, Now the internet icon is gone off the desktop, all lights on the modem are green. Can't even do a dial-up, any ideas of what I did wrong? Thanks for the help Steve.. Kim :)
I guess we have to start from the basics. Right click My Computer and select Properties from the drop down menu. Click on the Hardware tab, then on the Device Manager button. Click the + sign next to Network Adapters. What shows up there?
Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections. What network connections show up there?
Steve, Since I can not use my computer at home I have to get all information and then when I get home from work I try your suggestions. SBC had me delete all connections, there are no network connections in the device manger. I tried to using the wizard to set up a new connection but still will not connect. I tried running a computer check a message came up. can not connect to modem. Can't even do a dial up.
I am sorry, but I am doing the best I can to explain what I can see. In the Internet Properties if you click on the the Connection Box, In the box "Dial up and Virtual Private Network Settings" is empty. I am not at home, so I am unable to look at the device manager, I am hoping this is enough information to answer you.

Are you connecting to the modem by USB or ethernet. I can't help if you won't answer my questions.

Sorry, I need the explicit answers to the questions I asked, otherwise I will just be guessing and I don't think that will help much.
