Lost the High Speed Hub controller...help?

I have got an Optiplex 270, which has the Network Card onboard the motherboard. I started having problems losing emails etc before the machine completely fell over. I re-installed the network driver, which seemed to have helped but it then fell over again after an hour or so...

Being stupid I tried to install Win 2000 over the present installation but as I only have access our works software and it was an older version I couldn't and I had to put XP on...this works fine but didn't clear the problem. I decided it must actually be the network card and used an old one we had lying around, which works fine but in the process I have lost the High-Speed USB controller, which means taking data across LAN and burning data to an external DVD drive takes an age...at the moment I have been burning 4.4Gb of data and it has taken me 322 minutes and it still is only 81% complete. I looked on the Dell support pages but can't see anything to help...any clues anyone?
