MAC filtering vs WPA
Which one is more secure, MAC filtering or WPA? Why do people need both? How do people hack into a network if their computer use a different MAC than the allowed ones?
Thanks.

MAC filtering and WPA are two different things and protect against two different things. MAC filtering prevents anyone whose MAC address isn't allowed on the network from gaining access to the network (serious hackers, however, can spoof MAC addresses). WPA is encryption that attempots to prevent people form intercepting the wireless signal. Without the encryption key, the signal is jibberish, and people can't read the files as they are being transmitted throught the airwaves. Both MAC filtering and WPA encryption are essential for network security. A serious hacker can probably break both. but the more levels of security that you have, the more discouraging it becomes for any hacker to break into your network.
