Macromedia Flash Player 6

Suddenly, whenever I click on a link in an email within Outlook, I get a blank Macromedia
Flash Player 6 window.  I used to (and need to) just go to the internet site in an existing IE
window.  What happened, and how do I fix it?  I have a Dell 4500 running XP Pro.

PhelpsHawk,

You can download and install an updated flash player as well as an updated shockwave player from this link:

Sorry, Steve ...

I've done all this ... have reconfigured my startup ... and have rebooted my machine.

Still, when I click on the Outlook message that says I have a reply to this posting, all I get is

a new blank window titled Macromedia Flash Point 6.  Should I do a System Restore?

PhelpsHawk,

You can try a system restore if you know when this particular problem started.  Are you sure that the error message says "Flash Point 6" ?

Also ... Macromedia suggests that I'll have to use ActiveX controls to get Flash Player 7.0.
But I thought security folks are saying to avoid ActiveX because it leaves your system vulnerable.
And that's a key message from the Mozilla Firefox folks.

Will that allow me to bypass Flash Player 6 ... as far as I know, I never use it.

PhelpsHawk,

The newest Flash player will play Flash 6 movies.  If you want to use Flash, you have to have ActiveX enabled.  You do not want to automatically download ActiveX controls.  You want to have the choice to accept or decline the installation of ActiveX and other plug-ins for Internet Explorer.

There is NO error message.  I want the hyperlinks in Outlook email to take me to the

website in the link, NOT to a new window titled Macromedia Flash Player 6.  This just started today, and I've never, to my knowledge, used Flash Player 6 (though I do have Dreamweaver on my machine courtesy of my teenager).

PhelpsHawk,
Since this just started, a system restore would probably work just fine to resolve this issue.

Thanks, Steve ...

That's what I did, and I'm back to working just fine.  Annoys me that I couldn't figure out

what was happening, though.

Many thanks.
