Map a network drive on LAN
Hi All,
Need some help with mapping a network drive. Let me explain my set up first.
I recently brought a dimension 9200 with Windows XP Pro SP2 OS. I also had a dimension 4600 with XP Pro sp2 and figured it would be great to put them in a LAN set up with the Linksys router I have. I connected both PC to the Linksys router, and both of them were able to connect to the internet, ping and remote desktop to each other. So pretty good so far.
Then I wanted to start transferring my mp3s and photoes from the old 4600 (let's just give it a simple name "'A" ) to the 9200 (name it "B" ). So I went to Tools > Map Network Drive (on computer "B" ) and put in
\\A\c$ in the folder field. After I clicked "Finish" a window poped up asking for credential to computer "A". But here comes the problem, the "User name" field was already populated with "GUEST\myloginname" and was greyed out. I could only input the password. I typed in the admin password and computer A wouldn't grant me access to it. On computer A there's only 1 account which is the administrator account. I didn't set up the Guest account. I know if I can somehow change the "User name" field to administrator, I can map the drive, but I can't. Tried several times already and the user name field was still greyed out and wouldn't allow me to change it.
Did I miss anything? Or are there some other places I need to check off to allow me change the user name? I know I can still transfer files with a share folder in computer A, but mapping the drive would save me tons of time without moving things around.
Thanks for any input in advance.

On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic
Create a specific shared folder by turning off Simple File Sharing and configuring the firewalls for sharing. No need to use the Admin Share of C$.
