Im not sure it, but if it's looking for actual memory, then changing your 'pagefile' size wouldn't help. You'll need to add more physical memory. It will come on a small card that can be easily 'inserted' into your computer; it's usually fairly cheap.

Here's a good place to start: [ http://www.crucial.com/ ]. Look up your computer's make and model here. They will recommend the speed and 'pin' requirements for the memory module; called a SIMM or DIMM.

SIMM = single inline memory module.
DIMM = dual inline memory module.

That way you'll know exactly what you'll need. Then try shopping locally for it. They'll need to know how much memory you want (128MG, 256MG, etc.,.), whether it's a SIMM or DIMM, and how may pins (or contact points) are on the memory module.

If you need help locating the specific memory module, post back with the make and model of your computer, and we'll help you locate it.

When it comes to installing it, we can help you with that as well.

I went to crucial and looked for my computer model. My Dell says that its a Dimension L466cx and on the list the closet thing to that was a 466v. I found some definate numbes though; my computer has 64 MB (which is the same as the 466v), and I need 128 for DSL. Can I go to Best Buy with my model number and computer information and get a memory upgrade to 128MB?

Best Buy should work just fine, memory is pretty standard. They should be able to look it up for you; i've never shopped there. I'd still have something 'in-hand' to make sure it's the correct module, though.

  • SIMM or DIMM module
  • Buss speed; same as what you currently have or faster.
  • Number of pins on the module.

The DSL we have is supposed to work on however many computers we have hooked up to it for one monthly charge. And we're supposed to be able to access the internet whenever we want on either computer, even if its up on the other. Will that have any effect on that? I really have no idea... whatever is cheaper but still efficent would be best.

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to get a wired cable/DSL router for $30 and put it between your computers and the DSL modem, not have the software on the computer, let the router be the firewall and protect you, and not pay for two computers on the internet but just let them see the one computer (actually the router)?

I highly recommend going a getting a cheap wired (or wireless if you need/want it) router and putting it between the DSL modem and your computers and letting it be a firewall and let it handle the internet connectivity for both computers - it does it automatically.  Go here for a good tutorial and then look at D-Link, Linksys, and Netgear.
