Mini PCI

Is a wireless mini PCI a dell installed internal card  or is it the replacement socket on the side of the laptop that used to be PCMCIA?  I would like to know if I am missing the Mini PCI card...my wireless connection will not activate.

Whenever you post a message on this forum, you have to tell us which model computer you have so we don't have to make wild guesses to answer your question.  Wild guesses usually don't work with computers.  A MiniPCI card is always installed in a MiniPCI card slot, usually located under a door on the bottom of most laptop models.  It is not a PCMCIA card.

Ok,

Look, maybe I am way below your technical expertise but what I 'm trying to do is help a neighbor who has no access to the internet like I do right now.

With the internally installed wireless NIC's isn't there a process to activate?  I'm pretty sure the card is there.  The Device manager says it is and it looks like dell built it this way.

Do you know how to activate the Mini PCI card?

Sorry if I seem short, we just want to turn the card on so it can see a network.

Did you open the MiniPCI slot door and look?  Sorry, I can't tell you exactly how to do that since you still haven't said which model computer you have!!

Since it may very well be installed.

Well, if the card is not there, then it cannot be activated.   I can write an essay telliing you everything to try on all possible models, but it would sure be a lot simpler if you just told me which model computer we are dealing with. Can you not just ask your neighbor to tell you which model computer this is?   If the MiniPCI slot is turned off in the BIOS then it won't work.  Try enabling it in the BIOS.  Sorry, I can't tell you exactly how to do this, since I don't know which model you are dealing with.  On some Dell models the Fn F2 key combination acts as a toggle to turn the MiniPCI wireless network adapter on and off.  Try that.  Or, you could simply tell me which model computer this is and we could possibly get this thing over with with one more exchange.
