missing my local area drive

ok, i reformatted my hard drive, and put new windows on it. had media center but changed to windows Xp pro. I went and downloaded the driver from the dell webpage. but it gave me the (1394 connection) ive tried everything i could to get it to work. on my dell quick start says that my eithernet card is off but when i restart and hit f2, i think but anyway it says my eithernet card is on :( if someone could please help me out on this i would hight appreciate it a lot. but my wifi works just fine when i hook everything up with a wireless router. but i want the direct eithernet cable. please just give me any suggestions will help
my computer is a Inspiron E1405/640M 1.66 dull core processor

Did you install the chipset drivers as the first drivers installed after reinstallation of Windows? Without the chipset drivers, Windows will not be able to recognize or install drivers for many other devices. Once the chipset drivers are installed you need to install the drivers for your network adapter, video adapter, audio adapter, and modem.

:) hehe thakns a lot. now. my main problem is that my isp still lagg's out they claim that its my computer/wierless router. well since ive swiched back to eithernet cable direct hookup. i still lagg out just not as bad. any suggestions on how i could tweak my computer a lil ?

Go to the following site and run the Tweak test.   Follow the instructions and take any advice that is offered.
