Dell uses different hardware components for some of their PC's. I would just take out the modem and locate the part number on the main chip of the modem card. This will allow you to find out what the exact model of modem you have.
I already did that. Modem is a Conextant RH56D/SP-PCI, but they don't have anything listed that matches.
I went to Driversguide.com and got one that will install but the modem will not dial the internet. It was working befor we formatted the HD so think it must just be the driver.
If the driver did install and the modem shows up under Windows Device Manager with no errors the next thing to try is run the modem diagnostics. You can get to this by going to Control Panel and double click on Phones and Modems. under their you should be able to run "query the modem" if this comes back succesful then the modem is installed properly and working. If the modem turns out to be working OK you may need to contact your ISP for instructions on setting up your dialup connection.
