Modem Drivers

Own a Dell 2350 Dimension desktop. Couldn't connect to internet, got message saying "no modem detected". Found out that modem drivers were somehow removed. Tried reinstalling drivers from cd, but got message saying "windows cannot install drivers" or something to that effect. Has been suggested that recent windows automatic updates (hotfixes) may be cause of problem. Updates may have reconfigured computer in some manner. If so, what can I do to fix problem? If not, what else can I do to try & reinstall drivers? All help appreciated!!!

It sounds to me like windows isnt letting you install the drivers because it cant see the modem, possibly because the modem has received a spike or something from the phone line. Are any modems listed in device manager? If so, is that where it says no drivers are installed? If not, will the pc detect the modem by scanning for new devices from device manager? If no modems are listed, and it wont detect the modem, perhaps try swapping the modem between pci slots and try again. If this doesnt work, chances are you need a new modem. Alternatively, if windows updates have caused a problem, you should be able to do a system restore to a date before the problem occurred, which should hopefully then fix your problem.

Hey Snapohead! More info on my problem. Message will also pop up saying "found new hardware", &  then installation wizard will pop up. But as said before, windows won't allow installation of drivers. Sound familiar. Thanks.

Have you tried Downloading Driver for your Modem here ? :

message to ahgute:   If your modem problem  is fixed you may have passed it on to me.  My dimension w 98 modem has the same problem and I installed a  new modem, but still can not get the pc to put the name in the registry.   Was there a successful outcome to your problem that you might share with me?
