modem or phone line?
Dimension 2400 with intel 537epv9x modem. Worked great until a week ago. cannot find dail tone. It also caused all the lines in the house to become open(like if you left your phone off the hook) went through all of diagnostics, no help. Unplugged phone line, all the phones work again. Placed a phone into the phone socket i use the computer with and it works normally. contact modem to phone socket, again it treats it like it has an open line. ran a test on the modem says it is working properly, uninstalled reinstalled. so what is it?

I'm having the exact same problem. Three modems later (the last one I bought myself) and I still can't get on the internet. I'm filing a claim in small claims court to try and get my money back. I bought my computer 8/31/2005 and it's only worked about 2 months total time. I'm sick of getting the run around by their tech support and so-called "customer service".. (boy that's a laugh....all they do is refer me back to tech support). Maybe everyone on this board should get together and make it a class-action ??????......there sure are a lot of posts on this board about modem problems.

I just talked to Small Claims Court here in Coumbus GA. They told me I have to file a claim to take Dell to court in Texas, where Dell is located. What a crock!!!! Now I have to go to Texas to file a claim and it will cost me more money than I spent on this worthless computer. (By the way, the last modem I bought was a US Robotics and it only lasted a day and a half before it went bad. I can't find a virus, so it must be something wrong in the motherboard that keeps destroying my communications. It's been another two weeks and I still can't get on the internet.) The only thing I can do now is have it fixed by someone here in Columbus, GA and pay for it myself (hopefully it can be fixed....If not I'll just mount it on top of my car so everyone can see it along with the sign)... I am dead serious about this.!!!! Dell won't do anything and I bought the extra one year warranty. I'm not going to try to contact them anymore. I'm just going to put a sign on my car that says
"Before you buy a DELL computer, ask me about the $894.54 I wasted!! Call 706-269-2589" (This statement is me exercising my Rights under the 1st Ammendment... It is my opinion and I'm free to express it).
If I can prevent just one person from buying a Dell computer then satisfaction will be mine. I know I'll never get my money back but at least Dell will lose a lot more than I did.
