It's most likely not a "modem" problem. It's either something in the fax program (check to see if there is an option to sutdown or restart the modem after completing a fax) or you have some type of spyware/virus that is causing this.
Do a complete spyware scan and an antivirus scan with up to date spwyare and anitivirus programs (programs that have current "data" files).
Thanks for your response, however my fax program does not have any options to restart or shut down the computer. I have the AOL spyware program and it did not detect any spyware. I have the Norton Anti-Virus program and it did not detect any virus. Also, I checked to see if any of these programs were blocking the access and I couldn't find where they were blocking access. AOL's spyware is allowing access to the fax service. I did not see the option for Norton Utilities to allow or block access. Is there any other program that could be blocking the access?
Thanks for your help. I found out that it was actually the software that came with modem that must be corrupted, therefore, I purchased another fax software program which was better that the one that come with my computer.:smileyhappy:

click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space beween sfc and /)
click ok
sfc will replace any damaged/missing XP system files. Insert the XP CD if sfc requests it. Reboot when sfc is done and try faxing again.
