modem problem

i have a dimension 4100,  i just cleaned out and then reinstalled windows on my computer, now my computer says i have no modem,  what can i do now?

Is this a dial-up modem or broadband modem? Did you install the chipset driver immediately after installing Windows and did you then install the video, audio, and modem drivers, in that order?

it is a dial-up modem, could u please tell me what a chipset driver is?

Looking at Dell's download page for the 4100, I don't see chipset driver listed, so I guess you don't need one for this model.

Did you install the correct modem driver? There are 11 dial-up modem choices listed on this page so you'll have to figure out which one you have and install the driver for it.

I'm having this same problem.  How do we find out which type of modem we have from the list?

Open device manager and expand the list under modem. It should list the name of the modem card that's installed. Find the matching driver on the download page for your system model.
