Modem sending/receiving low bytes
I can't access the Internet at all. Get message "Page cannot be displayed". Deleted cookies and temp internet files, tried LAN vs dial-up connection, hand-inputted DNS numbers, checked with ISP provider. Nothing has worked. I did notice, however, that when I checked the status in the Dial-up connection in the PC icon in the bottom right hand toolbar, the bytes activity is extremely low --about 1/10 of what I am getting on this PC that I am using to write the message and using the same ISP.
Please help?

I would remove/reload the modem driver. Reseat the modem in the PCI slot. Avoid splitter and phone extension cord. Shut down the PC and listen for static noise on the phone line. Also check to see if you have interference from a hardware/software firewall.

I did reseat the modem and that did not help. I also placed good same-type modem from another Dell PC as well, but still no good. Spent 2 hours with Dell and they said I would have to reinstall the whole system (ugh!)
So I went to the Dell kiosk at the mall and talked to one of the reps who was also an IT specialist. He came out to my house, put in 2 repair disks and solved my problems in minimal time and cost. Problem was that a trogan had hijacked my browser. He cleaned up the spyware and also installed Spybot.
