modem software problems

Question

first my computer said it couldn't find modem,  do i downloaded it's driver and installed it.  It connected once and now it won't  connect to get on-line again.  I have tried reseating the modem,deleting and reinstalling it,  now i am getting a message that says it can't find the software for the modem.   What software do i need or am i doing something wrong.   If someone could help me please!!! this thing is driving me crazy.

We need your PC model Number, Operating System and what ISP you are using.  Without that all anyone can do is guess or offer general suggestions.  This is not a flame, but we need more than 'it's broke'.

it's a dell dimension 4100 running windows me and the isp is aol

Ahh, AOL.  Sadly, AOL tends to do 'their own thing' and the AOL software is known to have a lot of proprietary issues.  The first thing may be to reinstall AOL (and make sure it's a version that is compatible with ME) and see if can find the modem.
