Question

The phone line in my house went dead (no dial tone).  It turns out that when I disconnect the phone line from my modum (Dimension 3000), the dial tone returns.  When I connect it up again, the automatic operator says 'If you wish to make a call, hang up and dial again'.  The it goes dead.  Do you think this is a hardware problem?  We had a thunderstorm last weekend.

Maby, My parents PC stopped conecting to the internet. It froze at dialing to aol. and they had to get a new modem

It is possible that right before your phone line went dead a power surge went THROUGH THE PHONE LINE and killed your modem. It has happened to me before when i had dial-up.
