MOTOROLA SB5101 cable MODEM problem

Anyone outthere have problem staying online with this MODEM?

Mine worked fine for about 6 months but lately it loses its IP lease/address for minutes to hours at a time.  High speed access to the internet is useless if you can't get on and stay on.  Of course the cable company will come look at it for only $50.00 (I got it from them) or if I succumb to their blackmail and subscribe to their wire maintenance program for $4/month they will look at it too.

Internet search shows hundreds of problems like this with this MODEM.  Anybody found cure?

I have a SB5100 modem that was supplied FREE from Brighthouse cable.  I have not had any problems with this modem.

Have you checked your line levels?  Mine generally runs about plus 10 but they say anything above minus 7 is "adequate" (I say anything above 0 is reliable).

Here is the URL for the modem's level display  http://192.168.100.1/signal.html

Been using that http: site since problem with MODEM started.  Sent my cable provider lots of doc regarding the power levels during good comm and no comm.  I thought they had increased my sig strength for it ran flawless for a week after sending them email....but last nigtn it went out for a couple hours.
