Moved back to Australia, cannot open IE

I bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop computer several months ago while I was living in England. I returned to Australia about 2 weeks ago, bringing this laptop with me. While I was in the UK, I had absolutely no problems connecting to our wireless network - I could even connect to the wi-fi at my friends house, or even use the neighbours' wi-fi network if they didn't have security up.

Now I can still access wireless networks in Australia, and I can connect to our broadband via our Linksys Cable/DSL router, but even though I am connected I cannot use Internet Explorer. I tried signing in to MSN (which didn't work), it has told me that my default gateway is off line - although I don't know what this has to do with anything.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

How is the Local Area Connection (Network Adapter) configured?  DHCP or Static?

November 9th, 2006 06:00

Ok I did the run cmd thing, this is what I got...

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name: PANDORA
Primary DNS Suffix:
Node Type: Mixed
IP Routing Enabled: Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection

Media State: Media disconnected
Description: Broadcom 440 x 10/100 integrated controller
Physical Address: 00 15 C5 23 6A FC

Ethernet Adaptor Wireless Network

Description: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 ABG Network Connection
Physical Address: 00 13 02 C9 DB 1A
DHCP enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration enabled: Yes
Connection specific DNS suffix:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.4
                       192.168.1.5

I think that's all - note that I was not able to connect the ethernet local area connection cable up in this instance. The connection specific DNS suffix is blank in all instances that I checked the IP configuration. Could this have something to do with the problem?

Anyway, hope this is of some assistance to you guys.
Cheers
