Need help and advice for hooking computer to a wireless connection.

Question

Here is my situation I need help with. I recently purchased a new Dell Dimension 8400 computer and would now like to hook up my old computer to a wireless connection for DSL. What do I need to get to make this work, and what is the most reliable and secure hardware? And if it makes a difference my new computer is using Windows XP, my other computer is using Windows 98, and DSL is through SBC Yahoo.

First, make sure that your cable modem can connect through ethernet. If it can only connect through USB, then you will need a new cable modem that can connect through etherent. You will need a wireless cable/dsl router. Most forum regulars would recommend models from Linksys or Netgear. Once computer should connect to the router through ethernet, the other can connect through wireless, but will need a wireless network card. Two good sites that can help you are:

Thanks for the links. I will certainly check them out. I should at least add that SBC supplied a Speedstream 5360 ethernet ASDL modem and a ethernet card to install in my older computer. Currently the new computer is hooked up to the modem by ethernet cable and connections.
