First, make sure that your cable modem can connect through ethernet. If it can only connect through USB, then you will need a new cable modem that can connect through etherent. You will need a wireless cable/dsl router. Most forum regulars would recommend models from Linksys or Netgear. Once computer should connect to the router through ethernet, the other can connect through wireless, but will need a wireless network card. Two good sites that can help you are:

Thanks for the links. I will certainly check them out. I should at least add that SBC supplied a Speedstream 5360 ethernet ASDL modem and a ethernet card to install in my older computer. Currently the new computer is hooked up to the modem by ethernet cable and connections.
