The best thing to get would be the Intel Anypoint (APRW2PCC) PC Card Network Adapter.

I've been VERY happy with my Cisco miniPCI card in my 4100.  It gets a better signal than the PCMCIA version!

I've had the tm1300 for months now and I've not had a single problem.  Signal is great and it works just fine.  Plus it seems to be cheaper than some of the other minipci cards i found (esp with all the dell promotions).

Thanks, amigos for the reply.

zma453, fully agree with you. Should have bought 1300 with my 8500 together while I had double 15% off promotion. At least if something didn't work out I can call Dell for complaint. Now everything is on my own. Could you please share with me which router are you using? And how about the antenna thing?

I'm running a moded Linksys (Broadcom) 54G Mini PCI, I added two connectors for the antean and I don't use a second antenna, nor I enabled diversity and I got no trouble on 2 frequantly used 11mbits network and a few "unfrequent" mixed network far away....

i'm using the 1300 Drivers, not Linksys one. The card cost me nothing if you see what I mean and I paid 12 canadian $ for the 2 SMT mini coax connectors ! I plan to to build, and connect a plug on my I-8200's right LAN/56K cover and use an external antenna by a day, but for the moment I don't use WiFi too often so it's ok

Try ebay if you want a True Mobile 1300, they are pretty cheap here for brand new kits, soemtiem seller are offering patch cable and antenna kits too so yous aev on shipping and get something 100% compatible if you are not good with electronic...

Sorry Kanekane, but I don't really understand what you are saying in your post.  You have an Inspiron 8200, which only has 1 antenna, and you have a TM1300?  I believe I got that much.  You lost me when you starting discussing using two antenna's.  Do you mean you split the antenna connector so that you have the one antenna connected to both ports?  Have you tried antenna diversity?  If you are not using diversity than there is no reason to have both ports connected.

I have the same laptop and mini-pci card and I think it is great.  I use it with a SMC 7004 802.11b router and it works perfectly.  I am only using MAC addressing for security (no WEP).  I used to use a SMC 2632W 802.11b PCMCIA card and the TM1300 is so much better.

TrueG, I'm using only one antenna for the moment, the one that was build in the I-8200. But The card i took off the Linksys PCI card wich was a Broadcom card, (exactly the same as Dell put it's name one) needed em to solder conenctors (SMT mini coax). so I bough 10 and soldered 2. but only one antenna is conencted on the card actually (using only the main connector, not the aux). Diversity is disabled (enabled by default if I remember). By a day I plan to get a patch cable, connect it tot he aux second antenna jack on my Mini PCi card and run it to the right "blank cover". Here I will solder some kind of jack fixed internally (flush on the outside to stay mobile) then I will get or build an external patch cable to use on an externa high dB antenna ! At this time I will enable diversity !

Diversity give nothing (and can get worst speed) if enabled without using 2 antenna... You are right on this for sure !!!

I think I was more clear this time !

OK, yes that was much more clear.  I myself have great coverage at home and school but am planning on buying a secondary antenna from www.discountechnology.com for $20 to connect to the AUX port.
