need help connecting to internet after reinstall

Hi, I tried searching previous posts but could not find the help I need.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000, just reinstalled windows xp home.  I have AT&T uverse for internet, and the computer is hard wired to the router (not wireless).  So, I should have a connection since the router is working and all connections are fine, but apparently I am missing a driver needed to connect.  The Dell resource CD shows that I have the intel pro/100 VE network connection installed.  The tech support from uverse said I am missing a driver for LAN.  Any help is much appreciated.

Does the adapter show up in Device manager?

Since you mentioned you just reinstall the OS you need to follow the steps HERE on how to reload your drivers and Desktop system software if listed.

I don't see it in device manager, under what tab should it appear?

I installed all the CD's that originally came with the computer, shouldn't that be enough?

OK, found it but it was disabled, clicked enabled and message "windows was not able to enable this device".  Any ideas?
