NEED HELP GETTING INTERNET CONNECTION PLEASE!!!!

Hi

My sister recently had a dell pc from her work, they erased everything off the pc. She gave this to my father in law. But he set it all up fine but cant get it to connect to the internet. It has Windows 2000 on it. He is with Virgin Broadband.

Any help would be really appreciated as none of us know what to do or where to start to get it connected. It is a cable connection not wireless. I do not have the model of PC on me at the min but I will update this tommorrow if it will help!
