I think MRF4700 who answered before me is on the right track. Check the router settings. Is it set as Infrastructure for network connection type? It should be based on the config you mentioned. Make sure PC wireless connection allows connection to unsecured networks (assume yours is).
I really think it would be worthwhile for you to go to the linksys site, it is pretty good, of course you'd have to direct connect to your internet connection to be able to access the site. Be careful when connecting directly to cable modem. Unless you have a good software firewall you are gonna have a serious amount of traffic hitting your pc, most of it benign, but some not. This is how I lost three credit card numbers (using DMZ port).
I went to that link that you gave me and everything worked fine until the last step. It succesfully established a connection but when it gets to the connecting your computer to the internet, it says that it is unable to due to an unknown problem.
The wireless still is trying to acquire network connection and sometimes it connects but then the signal strength is blank, and then it disconnects.
the username and password you gave me doesn't work. I typed the thing in the address bar, the window login comes up and i typed the things you gave me in and the window flashes and i have to type it in again. then it says that 404 not authorized message in the IE.
Did you power cycle your network after the changes?
Shut everything off.(cable modem, router, and computers) Wait 5 mins., power on the cable modem. Wait another 5 mins., power on the router. Wait another 5 mins. turn on your computers.

You need to access the router's utility and configure it for your network.(SSID, MAC addresses, WEP encryption, etc.)
Open a web browser window and type http://192.168.1.1 in address box. Should open a logon window. Enter admin for name and password for the password.
Review and configure router settings.
Does this help?

Here is a trouble shooting on linksys, good luck: http://www.linksysfix.com/check/filter/index2.htm?CallerID=SP
