Need help with setting up Wireless!!!!!!!

Hi,
I just got my new XPS410 w/Vista set up on Monday.  I am able to hook up to the internet when I go through my external modem and right into the computer, but I cannot get internet service on my new computer or the laptop upstairs when I use my netgear router.  I have Comcast Cable internet service.  I have tried to connect the modem to the router and the router to the computer, but I am having no luck!  I am getting very frustrated and I'm too the point of not knowing who to ask for help, so I'm really hoping I can get help here.  Since my computer is new, (and this is probably a real DUMB question) but do I have an internal modem or router?  Is that possible, how would I know?  Anyway, I would appreciate it if someone could help get my WIRELESS back!

Thanks!:smileysad:

It would help if you could give the model number(WGRXXX?) of the router and the cable modem?

Okay, so have you already installed the router software and configured your network settings in the router's web-based utility?

Hi,
I made huge progress today...LOL, not sure what I did, but I now am able to get onto the Internet with my new computer being plugged into the router and modem.  I just can't get my laptop upstairs to be wireless.  My Network is listed on the laptop, but when I select connect it says I need the *Key*

So now I am trying to troubleshoot how to find out what the KEY is, and how do I input it into the Laptop, I can't find a place to click to even submit the KEY.

I'd love any tips!

Thanks!

On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic
