You need to start by providing a lot more information.  What kind of wireless network are trying to connect to?  Is it one in your home or office or is it hotspot network?  If in your home, can other computers make a wireless connection?  If any security features are enabled on the network, have you configured your wireless network card to conform to the security settings?  Does your wireless network card show up in Device Manager?  Does it show up in Network Connection?  If it shows up in Network Connections, are you able to see any wirelss networks if you right click the wireless connection and select "View available wireless networks"?

My desktop computer can make a connection..I am trying to connect wireless from my home.  I have ethernet broadband router.  The network adapter does show up in Device Manager.  It also show up in network connection but not able to view the available network when I right clicked on it.  I have security behind it , but won't let me configure.  Do I need a wireless router?  Do I have a wrong kind of router for wireless connection?  I have D-Link DI - 604.

Your router only supports ethernet.  Since you have no wireless network to connect to, it explains why you cannot connect by wireless.  Yes, you need to replace your ethernet router with a wireless router.  Note that nearly all wireless routers on the market today have 4 etherenet porsts, so you can continue to connect up to 4 computers with a wired ethernet connection and many more through the wireless connection.

From your last message, I'm not sure you understand what I said.  Replacing the router will be very expensive and it is nearly impossible to find a router that can connect by USB.  You need to replace your modem with one that can connect by ethernet.
