Need internal modem

I ordered my Dell Latitude D610 without the internal 56k modem. Now I have a need for the modem. Can I order the internal modem module from Dell and install it myself or would I be better off ordering a PC card modem instead?

I have asked almost the same and nobody has answered, I suggest you to buy one at ebay, I have bought this: http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5218179933
but I dont know if it works because it has not arrived yet.

Good luck.

I am certainly glad to hear that it is possible to install the internal modem myself and saving some money.

Now my next question, "How do find this part number and how do I contact the used parts department to purchase this item?"

Hello skycity,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum,

Yes the modem can be added If its not already installed. The modem is located on the bottom of your system under the audio and headphone jacks. Remove the one screw to remove the cover, It will need to be purchased from our spare parts department .Hope that this helps

Thanks,

Hello skycity,

The part numbers are D5422,H6660 US Only and M5804(mdm 56k,int,mdc). Each of these part numbers will work except H6660 is for US install only.Call 1-800-372-3355

What is the difference between the three listed models: D5422, H6660 and M5804? I will be travelling a lot (outside the US) so are all three compatible with non-US telephone lines? What about within the US?

Just received the internal modem from Dell. It is just a little bigger than a postage stamp. Honest.

Installation was painless. I did have to download the driver for Dell's website. After that, it worked on the first attempt.

I did experience problems with the delivery courier. I won't mention names, but the initials are "DHL" :smileywink:. Official response from them is that my address is considered too rural (My location is 50 feet off the freaking Interstate)! The modems sat 50 miles away for 3 days until they arrange another courier to deliver to me. STUPID...

skycity, which model did you get? Do you know the difference between the other models listed. Nobody from Dell has bothered to reply ...
