Need more range

Is there a way to increase the range of my wireless? I work nights and need to talk to firends to keep the sanity... >.< but.. when I gget to work, my connection dies and the only thing I can connect to is about 20 meters farther than I need. any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you do not have the ability to change the access point at work, then your best available option is to get a better antenna on your wireless client (which will probably involve changing wireless cards to one that supports external antennas). A quick Google suggests poking around at:

Depending on the hardware details of your access points, you may also be able to get a card by the same manufacturer and see some improvements. For example, Netgear has an "eXtended Range (XR)" feature that can be turned on in their access points and, when paired with appropriate Netgear cards, gives better performance with weak signals.
