Need Recommendation For PCI Network Card

Can anyone recommend a network card for my computer.

Below is a link which details my unsuccessful attempt to install a Linksys LNE 100TX version 5.1 10/100 EtherFast PCI adapter.

After that experience I noticed that the Linksys box stated that one of the minimum requirements is a PCI 2.2 slot.  My computer's PCI slots are 2.1.  I called Linksys recently and they said the LNE 100TX requires a PCI 2.2 slot.

Thanks.

I bought an used 3Com network card on eBay. and it works fine for my Dimension 4100.
These wired network card are dirt cheap, because everyone is going wireless.
If you are buying new, go to the manufacturer's website and check the spec and make
sure the card is backwards-compatible with PCI 2.1.

Thanks for the reply.

I checked out Ebay.  As you said, the cards there are dirt cheap.

I noticed that although the Linksys LNE100TX version 5.1 box indicates that one of the minimum requirements is a PCI 2.2 slot, the user's manual on the CD included with the product indicates that the card requires a computer with a PCI 2.1 (or higher) slot.  So, despite my previous unpleasant experience trying to install this card, I tried again.   And, VOILA, it works!

Congratulations!

Always good not to have to return something. Such a hassle. :)
