This link describes how to network the two machines:

To answer the other questions:

The X means that machine is not conencted to the internet only the local LAN.  Your Tren Micor firewall maybe inhibiting this connection.  Turn if off to trouble shoot.

IPv6 is not needed, you can uncheck that box.

Hello,

I checked out the Web site you referenced.  It directed me to click "Customize" which, in turn, takes me to the connection wizard.  I was a bit "nervous" about doing this.  Also, I knew from past experience with this issue that "tweaking around" in my network properties configuration resolved the issue; I just could not recall the specific modifications needed.  So, I experimented with a few configuration combinations and found a configuration which seems to have corrected the issue.  F or your information and examination, here are the items I checked.  (I omitted the "cleared" items.):
            - Client for Microsoft Networks
            - QoS Packet Scheduler
            - Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
            - Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
            - Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder
As to your comment about not needing IPv6, I think I tried it with just IPv4 and still got the "X".  So, at least for now, I'm taking the attitude of , "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and leaving both checked.
If this turns out not to be a permanent "fix", I will recontact you.  Meanwhile, maybe you can use this information to perhaps assist anyone else in a similar situation.  I really appreciate your help!

Best Regards,
Jeff Evans
