Need urgent help re: networking/modem setup

My Inspiron has been sitting unused for months, but I'm going out of town tomorrow and I'll need to use it so I dusted it off and fired it up. Interestingly enough neither my wireless networking or my modem seem to work right. After a few hours I discovered that I could connect to my home network if I entered all of the info manually i.e. IP address, nameservers, etc.   But what I really need to get working is the modem, since that's what I'll need to use when I'm on the road. No matter what I do it just doesn't work - there is no DNS. It connects fine to Earthlink but just can't connect to any sites, etc. I assume it's the same problem I had with the wireless setup, and if I knew the correct nameservers to enter it might work, but I don't.   I can only assume that Win2k is holding on to some old networking settings or something, and is confusing itself. I've never had this problem before, but I had made a bunch of networking/setup changes when I used it last several months ago. I tried uninstalling the modem and re-doing everything but it didn't make a difference. Is there some way to wipe the system clean of all networking related info so I can 'start over' from scratch?

I would remove the TCP/IP protocol for the network card, then reboot and add the TCP/IP protocol back in.
