after downloading the latest microsoft update to my computer, i haven't been able to connect to the wirless connection i have at my house...it keeps telling me that there is limited or no connectivity...i called dell support and after remaining an hour on the phone with them they basically told me the only thing i can do is sign up for software plan for 99$ so that they can help me fix this problem. i really don't want to pay 99$ and would like it if somebody could help me because i really need my computer for my job as i travel alot...thanks hope to hear from somebody soon...

As a first step, try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here and if that doesn't work try lspfix from Here.

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

i got that same error repeatedly with an SMC card and a dlink router -- I finally just replaced it.  All settings were right for me and I did everything I could to troubleshoot it.  Sometimes it worked -- most of the time it didn't.

what card and router are ya using?

Try first downloading the latest drivers for the wireless network adapter from the Intel web site.  Once you have the drivers downloaded, go into Device Manager and uninstall the wireless card, reboot, then install the drivers you downloaded.
