NETGEAR PCI Adapter Problems

Question

Hello all. System is an Optiplex GX260 running Windows 2000. I have recently upgraded several of these machines to use NETGEAR's Gigabit PCI Adapter. Now, as you may all know, these machines of course come with a 10/100 already installed on the motherboard. Before installing this new card I disabled the old connection by going to Network Places, right click the connection and disabling it. I then enabled my new connection which would be the NETGEAR Adapter.   After a day or so of use or even a shutdown and restart the machine has trouble logging on to the network. I have a feeling perhaps it is trying to point to the old adapter. Is there anything additional I need to do to disable the old adapter so the new one can have a proper connection?   Thank You!

What gigabit do you have on the receiving end? 3Com? Dell? Cisco? Netgear? Are all drivers the latest? ROM updates?

Gigabit over copper is VERY VERY PICKY about wire and connectors and switches and software etc. Gigabit over Fiber is more stable.
