netgear super G technology with i8500?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows whether the inspiron 8500 is capable of supporting the super g technology pcmcia cards which runs at 108Mbps. I know that the i8500 supports 802.11a/b but im not sure about 802.11g. Any help would be great!

Thanks.

Steve

None of the Dell cards support it. It is possible to replace the dell card with a SuperG capable card like I did and get those speeds.

You get a PCI desktop card that has a mini-PCI under the shield, make sure it has antenna lead connector(s), then remove it and put it into your notebook.

Like John said, this is somethign you need to do yourself, and may require some familiarity with small computer bits. Dell WILL NOT support you on this.

From what I understand, you would need a special card type I belive its type IIIB, I have an Inspiron 5150. so what is a good pci card I could buy to fit it?? Thanks :)

You need a miniPCI type IIIB card...the one I pulled out out a Netgear 311 has been good.

Looks pretty close to what I bought though my card didn't have the 'NA' at the end.

Thanks for the replies guys..ok so from what i can gather i need to get a wireless "pci card" for desktop pc not a "pcmcia card" and pull it arpart. Im not sure on what brand and how to do this and so forth. Are there websites out there that give details on how to do this? If there is could someone pleasse direct me to the sites. THanks in advance guys.

You may want to look at:

More info in that thread and I'm trying to do the same thing you are from the looks of things.
