Netgear

I have a Dimension 8250 and a Netgear Router WGR614 v6. I have tried installing the router using the setup disk and it will both retrieve a connection and allow me to configure my connection. However, I cannot connect to the internet no matter if I insert the IP address given to me by my ISP or leave it as detect the settings. Any ideas or suggestions? All I remember from the previous time installing the router is talking to a frenchmen from Netgear for hours and understanding every 3rd word.

Please post more information.  Are you connecting through a cable modem or a dsl modem?  Are you resetting the network every time you change the connection from the modem?  With the computer connected to the router and after turning everything off, turning on the modem first, then turning on the router, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

No you don't need a Netgear wireless adapter.  All 802.11b/g standard wireless network devices will work with each other at standard 11 Mbps and 54 Mbps speeds.

One other quick question, since I have a Netgear router, do I have to have a netgear network chip for the other computer?
