Network Adapter Card Issues

It looks like XP has struck again.  When I got home, I could not access my internet.  I called Comcast, and they walked me thru some stuff.  It looks like the system is not running the Network Adapter properly.  I tried uninstalling it in Device Manager, reinstalling it, and Searching for new drivers, all with the same conclusion: The device is not working properly.

Help!

Does the network adapter show as a problem device in Device Manager?  Which model computer do you have?  Which model network adapter do you have?  Have you tried running the diagnostics on the network adapter?  How did Comcast come to the conclusion that the network adapter is not working properly?

The network adapter does show a problem with it (Code 10), I have a Dimension 4300, with what is listed on my inventory as CARD (CIRCUIT), NETWORK, ETHERNET, 10/100, CNET TECHNOLOGY INC, REVISION.

I have not yet tried to run Diagnostics on it, as I have never used the Diagnostics.

I was able to connect to the cable modem with USB and it worked, but as it is the host computer for my LAN, I need it to be ethernet.  My router has no USB connections.

Dell told me to open the CPU, unplug and re plug the Network Card.  I have school until 8pm tonight so I cannot do it till then, and the suspense is driving me mad.

If their suggestion works, I'll let you know.

See if downloading and installing the drivers from the following link helps solve the problem:

Hello:

My related question is this (and pardon my ignorance):  given that I am in an identical situation and my Dell can't access the internet, can I download the driver to my old computer and transfer it to a CD-R via the old computer and then install the driver via that CD-R on my Dell?

Thanks!

Thanks.  I downloaded the dang driver, installed it and still no internet access after running cmd ipconfig and ipconfig /renew and monkeying around with everything per my prior Dell support calls.  And still the ! message by the network adapter card.  Is there a FAQ or any other source of help on this front?  How do pull and reinstall the NIC?  Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers?  Did not uninstall anything before installing the downloaded driver.

Many thanks.

Frustration abounds.

Please start a new thread rather than jumpiing in on an existing thread.  It gets very confusing trying to deal with more than one person's problems in the same thread.  You need to tell us the specifics of the the problem, version of Windows, make and model of computer, make and model of network card etc.
