Network Adapter Dissappearing?
For some reason when my dell vostro goes to sleep when I wake it back up the network adapter is missing and I have no connectivity. When I go to device manager at that point the network adapter does not even show up. I end up having to reset my Verizon wireless router and turn off and unplug the computer several times for it re-aquire the adapter.
Didn't know if anyone has had similiar issue.
Thanks,

I also have a Dell XPS 8300 with this same problem. It is very disappointing that Dell will not even discuss this problem. I appears that the only fix is to buy a machine not made by Dell.

We have the same issue. We bought 11 Vostro 460. 3 of them keep having NIC Broadcom Netlink disappeared.
Called Dell's tech and they said it must be a virus and encourage us to buy software warranty or somethings. Yeah..right.
We will have to buy NICs, I guess. We are very disappoint with Dell products lately.

I did find a work around. The loss of connection occurs when the computer goes to sleep. My present believe is that it is caused by bug in the driver. Anyway I changed the setting so that the computer does go to sleep. This ha made things much better.

Do not allow your computer to go to sleep.

Ok, I believe I have solved this problem from re-occuring. I believe it is the power management options that are bugging the card out as there is also a wifi card installed. So instead of both running it kills the power to the adapter.
You may need to restart your PC multiple times because of this glitch. The card eventually showed up for me after I lost it yet again. Go to device manager, power management settings. unclick "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power". It dropped my connection after I did this, restarted and it came back w/ no issues.
I have not lost it since this happened.

same here - I'm 2 months past warranty on my XPS 8300, so have resolved myself to reinstall the driver (Setup now on my desktop) and reboot whenever I wake up or turn on my PC. A real ass pain considering what I paid for a souped up system.

Hello Everyone,
IMO its not a problem about the drivers but BIOS/Hardware. We have around 20 Vostro 460 and some of them (not all) suffers from invicible NIC issue. My notifications:
1) Network adapter is phisicly out -no uplink on the interface, no PXE boot option, network adapter not visible in BIOS
2) Running "Dell Diagnostics" restores NIC
so, have a nice diagnosing :)

In case someone out there is still having trouble with this, this is what I did to resolve the problem. Turn off the computer, unplug power cable, then hold down the power button. It should flash as if it is about to turn on, then quickly turn off (and you can hear the fans start, then stop). After this, reconnect power cable and turn on and hopefully your problem is resolved. Other steps I tried included updating BIOS to A06, manual driver install, changing network adapter settings in BIOS, disable/enable WOL, and running Dell diagnostics. None of these did anything for me, but the power reset did the trick.
